    Maple Twist Cookies

    1/2 C Margerine
    1/2 C Brw Sugar
    1/2 C Milk
    2 Eggs
    1 tsp Vanilla

    3 C Flour (or a little more)
    4 tsp Baking Pwd
    1/2 tsp Salt

    LOTS of chopped Walnuts
    LOTS of Margerine for spreading

    Powder Sugar
    Maple Extract
    Milk

Cream sugar & butter then add milk, eggs, & vanilla. Add flour salt, & bkg pwd. Add add'l flour if too sticky. This is a very soft dough though.

Divide dough into 3 sections. On wax paper roll out to a rectangle of approx 12 long & 9 high. Now slather the dough with a very generous amt of butter then sprinkle with nuts. Now with the help of your wax paper, flip down the top 1/3 of dough, then flip it down again but NOT QUITE to the bottom edge. Now flip up your bottom edge & kind of seal it by GENTLY pressing it with your fingers. Now with a pizza cutter, slice this into approx 30 slices. Not very wide...maybe a 1/2". Now gently twist each slice before putting it on the cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 10-12 min until slightly browned.

Now make up your icing with the pwd sugar, extract, & enough milk to thin to desired consistency. Don't make it too thin. This is not a glaze. You will ice the very top of each cookie & then dip it into finely chopped walnuts.

I know the instructions may sound difficult, but it really isn't. It's just hard to describe. I did try something new last time, and I wasn't crazy about the results. I sprinkled some cinnamon in the nut layer and then another batch I sprinkled some cinnamon & brown sugar. I honestly like the original recipe best. You need a LOT of nuts on hand when making these. The recipe easily makes 7 dozen, so you get a lot for your money. They look beautiful on any cookie tray.
