    Worlds Best Sugar Cookies
    2 cups butter (no substitution)
    3 cups powdered sugar
    2 large eggs, unbeaten
    5 cups flour
    2 teaspoons vanilla
    1 teaspoon lemon extract
    1 teaspoon almond extract
    2 teaspoons baking soda
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    2 teaspoons cream of tartar

Note: no liquid. Cream well butter and sugar, add eggs and flavorings. Add
dry ingredients and beat until soft and
velvety. Let stand UNCOVERED at room temperature for at least one hour
    before working with the dough.

Roll out,on a pastry cloth covered surface with a covered or non stick
rolling pin, the thinner the better, and cut into
    shapes.

Bake at 325 until lightly browned, about 8-10 minutes. Watch carefully, due
to the high butter content, they can burn
    easily.

Yields about 6 dozen medium sized cookies. Also sprinkle with colored sugars
before baking. This recipe is unusual due to the fact that you do not chill
    the dough.

    Yummy Sugar Cookies

    4 c sugar
    2 c shortening
    4 eggs
    1 tsp. baking powder
    2 tsp. baking soda
    pinch salt
    2 tsp. vanilla
    8 c flour
2 c sour milk (1 Tbl vinegar to each cup of milk and let stand 5 minutes)

You need to refrigerate this for a few hours or overnight to kind of let the
flavors blend. This is a very sticky dough.
You can roll it out and cut it with cookie cutters of i have had luck with
also just making it into a drop cookie.

SUGAR COOKIES FROM THE ROUND TABLE

MY Grandma's Sugar Cookies - msfitz

    1 c oil
    1 c margarine
    1 c sugar
    1 c powdered sugar
    2 eggs
    1 t vanilla
    4-1/2 to 5 c flour
    1 t salt
    1 t baking powder
    1 t cream of tartar

Cream margarine, oil, and sugars. Add eggs & vanilla & mix well. Sift dry ingredients - measure after having sifted (I usually skip this unless I'm using bulk non-processed natural flour). Add dry mix to margarine mix until it reaches desired consistency. Roll into 1" balls, roll in sugar, & flatten with sugar coated bottom of glass.
Bake at 350° for 8 minutes. Do NOT over bake.

These just melt in your mouth, and for holidays I use the different colored sugars, so they can be adapted for just about any holiday. I used vanilla sugar and that was good too, but I like them best with just regular sugar.

    Sugar Cookies jackie

    1-1/2 cups sifted powered sugar
    1 cup butter or margarine
    1 egg
    1 tsp vanilla
    2-1/2 cups flour
    1 tsp baking soda
    1 tsp cream of tartar

Combine flour, baking soda and cream of tartar. Cream sugar and margine. Add egg and vanilla. Add dry ingredients. Do not over mix. Refrigerate dough for 2-3 hours, or overnight.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Roll out dough and cut into shapes. Plane on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 7-8 mins. Remove from cookie sheet to paper towels.

Air bake sheets work well with this recipe. You don't want these to brown. This recipe makes a very tender cookie. Depending on time constraints, I sometimes skip the frosting/decorating stage and just decorate with color sugars before baking. Either way, they're delicious!

    PLAIN SUGAR COOKIES

    posted by Betty Webb
This recipe is from my mother's handwritten cookbook.

    Ingredients:-
    1 cup butter
    1 cup sugar
    1 egg
    1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    3 to 4 tablespoons milk
    1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Flour enough to roll (I measured about 2-3 cups, depending on the flour)

    Method:-
    Preheat oven to 375F.
Cream butter and sugar, mix in egg and vanilla. Combine dry ingredients (start with 2 cups of flour and add more if needed). Add to creamed mixture with the milk. Chill if desired. Roll out and cut into desired shapes.
Place on cookie sheet, bake in preheated oven for about 8 to 10 minutes.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    NOTE:- In my mother's book it just says to mix everything and roll out, put on cookie sheet and bake in a quick oven. So the above method is how I have learned to do it. My mother baked in the oven of a wood burning stove.
