This is exactly her recipe. The following is how I did it or will do it next time.
Donna's Version of Orange Pretzel Salad
3 C Crushed Pretzels (approx 1/2 of small bag of pretzels)
2 Tbsp Sugar
3/4 C Margarine - melted
3 pkgs (3 oz) Orange Jello
3 C boiling Water
1 can (20 oz) Crushed Pineapple - drained
1 can (11 oz) Mandarin Oranges - drained
1 pkg (8oz) Cream Cheese - softened
1 container (8oz) Cool Whip
Place pretzels in food processor. Zap until pieces are med sized, then add butter & sugar. Zap until pieces pretty small & it's all mixed together. Press into a ungreased 9x13 pan. Bake at 350 for 12 min. Cool.
In bowl disolve jello in boiling water. Add drained pineapple & oranges. Chill approx 60 - 90 minutes until chilled.
In small bowl mix together cream cheese & sugar until smooth. Add Cool Whip & beat until all mixed. Spoon this mixture over cooled crust and then spread evenly. Then top with cooled jello mixture. Chill 3-4 hrs until set up & firm.
Looks very nice & tastes great. I just think it needed more orange flavor & that's why I would do an add'l box of jello. I have had the strawberry pretzel salad at many gatherings & most people leave their pretzel pieces way too big for my liking. I like it when you think it's just a nice tasting crust & are surprised when someone says it's made of pretzels.
