    CLEANING HINTS

    Source of Recipe

if you check the Internet...there is a way using dry dishwasher detergent... It takes stains out of most everything. Used to use it when my children were younger....Monica had a beautiful light yellow winter jacket and the darn thing was always stained...used to soak it in a solution using the dry dishwasher detergent and it always brought it back to bright and clean.

When my children were babies....I would use the Rit color remover and boil the little undershirts... Not even sure if that is what it is called..or even if it is still available...

Here are some solutions I found on the Web.... Take your pick....I have used the Rit and the dishwasher dry powder... worked for me...

For cotton and cotton blends only - 1/4 cup cascade powder, 1 cup bleach, mix with one gallon very hot water and soak the cottons and blends. They will be snowy white and odor free.

Never use bleach to get your fabric tennis shoes whiter! A little lemon juice in the final rinse should do the trick, though.

White Socks and Underwear: Use a dishwasher tablet or the liquid dish soap. Use the hot setting on your washer and put your white articles of clothing in and run the cycle.

Whites (looking dirty): Use 1/2 cup of baking soda and 1/2 cup white vinegar. Run a load of water, and pour baking soda and vinegar in water alone with detergent. Mix, then add the clothes. It will take the iron out.

Add 1 cup of bottled lemon juice in the wash to remove discoloration from cotton laundry.

To whiten your white clothes, put a teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide in the hot water in which you soak white clothes.

Yellowed/Grayed Whites: RitR, the makers of clothes dye, makes a white-wash that works well for bleachable and non-bleachable clothing that has yellowed or grayed. You can also hang yellowed clothes out to dry whenever possible to reduce the yellow.

Soak white laundry in lemon juice and water. Lemons have a natural bleaching ingredient and can be used to whiten clothes.
