Wendy’s Chili Copycat Recipe
(The one we like and use)
2 lbs. lean ground beef, browned and drained if necessary (I added extra meat yesterday…just didn’t seem meaty enough to me… probably another ½ lb. or so)
29 oz. can tomato sauce
40 oz. can kidney beans with liquid (original called for 29 oz.)
29 oz. can pinto beans with liquid
1 c. diced onion (I use a Sweet Vidalia or one similar)
½ c. diced green pepper or 3 tbsp. dried green peppers
¼ c. diced celery (I have made it ok without the celery but like it better with)
29 oz. can crushed tomatoes
2 tsp. cumin
2 tbsp. chili powder
1 ½ tsp. salt (original recipe calls for 2 tsp.)
2 c. water
Brown and drain ground beef. Put beef and the remaining ingredients into a large, heavy pot. Cover and simmer 1 to 3 hours stirring every 15 minutes so as not to stick and burn.
