- Spice Mixture:
- 5 whole allspice
- 5 whole cloves
- 1 bay leaf
- Chili:
- 2 lbs. ground beef (brown)
- 2 c. water
- 1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
- 1 lg. onion, chopped
- 2 T. chili powder
- 2 lg. cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp/ nutmeg
- 1/2 red pepper, cracked
- 2 tsp. unsweetened cocoa
- 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- kidney beans
Instructions
- Combine the whole spices and bay leaf in a garni bag or make a cheesecloth bag to hold them.
- Transfer browned meat to crockpot; add water, tomato paste, chopped onion, chili powder, garlic, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, red pepper, cocoa, Worcestershire sauce, and the cheesecloth bag with spices. Cover and cook on low for 7 to 9 hours, adding the drained beans the last hour.
- Serve over hot cooked thin spaghetti and top with chopped onions and grated cheese. This sauce could be used for chili dogs. Makes about 6 cups.
