    GUAVA JAM BARS

    Recipe Introduction


    This recipe is made with guava jam, but I bet any jam would do.


    List of Ingredients


    • 1 1/2 cup sifted flour
    • 1/2 cup sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
    • 1/4 teaspoon powdered cloves
    • 1/2 cup shortening
    • 2/2 teaspoon almond OR vanilla flavoring
    • 3/4 cup guava jam


    Instructions


    1. Sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and spices. Cut in shortening as in making a pie crust. Add the flavoring to beaten egg and add to mixture. Pack 2/3 of the mixture in the bottom of a greased 8 inch or 9 inch shallow pan. Spread the guava jam over this evenly and cover with the remaining mixture. Bake in preheated oven at 375 degrees for 25 minutes. Cool in pan. Cut in bars. Makes about 14 bars or squares.



    Final Comments


    If I remember correctly, the top layer did not completely cover the jam. My mom most likely would drop dollops and spread them.
