HUM LUM PRUNES
In Hawaii there is a treat that anyone brought up there loves. Sweet sour seed made out of plums. A Chinese treat.
When I was a kid we would go into a small Mom and Pop grocery store and buy a small brown paper bag with about 7 to 10 pieces for 5 cents. They had 3 varieties, always in glass jars. Sweet sour seed, salty seed, and crack seed. Alas, the Mom and Pop stores are gone, but they do have specialty stores that sell nothing but this seed in many varieties and still in glass jars. Now it is quite expensive, but I always buy myself a pound when I am over there. This recipe is as close as you can come to the real thing.
