Recipe Introduction
Here is the pasty recipe I promised to post.
Recipe will make 8 or 9 large pasties.
Serve with catsup. Some people like gravy on them but not Dis Ole Yooper
List of Ingredients
Crust
1 lb. lard or shortening
6 ½ cups flour
1 ¾ tablespoons salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
Blend well. Add 1 beaten egg
2 tablespoons lemon juice
½ cup cold water
Mix and roll
Filling
8 medium potatoes sliced or cubed
1 ½ lb.pasty meat (or flank steak)
2 or 3 medium onions chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
(Rutabagas or carrots optional)
Recipe
roll out dough to desired size. About 6 inches. Fill with filling. Add pat of butter. Crimp closed. Slit top. Brush with milk. Bake at 450 degrees for 15 minutes and then reduce temperature to 350 degrees and bake about 40 minutes longer or until brown
