    Sour Cream Cutout Cookies

    Source of Recipe

    Had this one for years.

    List of Ingredients

    Sour Cream Cutout Cookies
    1/2 c. butter
1/3 cup shortening (such as Crisco)
    1 cup granulated sugar
    1/3 cup. sour cream
    1 egg
    1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon finely grated lemon peel
    3/4 teaspoon baking powder
    1/4 teaspoon baking soda
    pinch of salt
    2 1/2 cups flour

    Recipe

In a large mixing bowl beat butter and shortening about 30 seconds until softened. Add sugar, sour cream, egg, vanilla, lemon peel, baking powder and soda and salt. Beat until thoroughly combined. Beat in as much flour as you can with the mixer. Using a wooden spoon, stir in any remaining flour. Divide dough in half. Cover and chill for 1 to 2 hours or until easy to handle.

On a well floured pastry cloth, roll each half of dough to 1/8 to 1/4 inch thickness, keeping other half of dough chilled. Using a 2-3" cutter dipped in flour, cut into desired shaped. Use a wide spatula to place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake at 375 degrees for 7-8 minutes, or until edges are firm and bottoms are a very light brown. Remove cookies and cool on a wire rack. Decorate with decorator’s frosting (below).

    Confectioners’ icing

    3 cups sifted powdered sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla

Add enough milk to make an icing that is easy to spread or drizzle.
