    Makes 4 servings.

    3 large eggs
    1/2 teaspoon almond extract
    1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    1 tablespoon Amaretto
    3/4 cup half and half or milk
    Butter or margarine for cooking
    8 slices bread
    1/2 cup thinly-sliced almonds
    Maple syrup
    Powdered sugar


    Beat the eggs in a medium bowl. Whisk in the almond extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, amaretto, and half and half.

    Melt about 1/2 tablespoon of butter in a skillet or griddle, and spread it around. Soak the bread, piece by piece, in the liquid, turning it over once in the bowl, until just barely soaked through.

    Cook on the skillet until browned on one side, 2-3 minutes. Before flipping, sprinkle with almond slices. Flip and cook until other side is nicely browned. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and top with maple syrup.
