Oarnge Chocolate Chip Cake

3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup butter
2 eggs
Grated peel of 1 orange
2 cups all purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips ( 6 oz.)
3/4 cup buttermilk
SYRUP
3/4 cup fresh orange juice
3/4 cup sugarRecipe
Heat oven to 350 F. Spray 9 inch square cake pan with
nonstick cooking spray.
In large bowl, beat sugar and butter at medium speed until
smooth. Add eggs; beat at medium speed until mixture is light
and lemon colored. Stir in grated orange peel.
In another large bowl, stir together 2 cups flour, baking soda
and baking powder. Add 1 tablespoon of the flour mixture to
cholcolate chips; mix well. Add flour mixture to sugar mixture
alternately with buttermilk; mix until smooth batter forms. Fold
in chocolate chips, pour into pan. Bake 30 to 40 min or
toothpick inserted near center comes out clean.
Meanwhile, combine orange juice and sugar in small
saucepan. Stir and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Stir
until sugar is dissolved. Pour boiling hot glaze evenly over
cake as soon as it is removed from oven. Cool thoroughly in
pan. Cut cake into squares to serve
