    Recipe Introduction

These are a traditional "hors d'euvre" that I serve at our Luau every year. They're a real treat! You can make the meatballs as below or a short cut is to buy them already made (or use your own favorite recipe if you prefer). It's the sauce that makes them "Hawaiian".

    List of Ingredients

    For meatballs:
    1 lb. lean ground beef
1/2 c. soft bread crumbs, moistened with milk
    1 beaten egg
    1 clove garlic, pressed
    1/2 tsp. dry mustard
    1/4 tsp. ginger
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 Tbsp. soy sauce

    For Oriental Sweet-Sour Sauce:
    Have ready a paste of:
    2 Tbsp. cornstarch
    1/2 c. chicken broth
    2 Tbsp. soy sauce

    Melt in heavy pan:
    2 Tbsp. butter

    Add:
    1 C. chicken broth
    3/4 to 1 C. diced green pepper
    6 slices diced canned pineapple

Cover and simmer 5 minutes. Add the cornstarch paste and the following ingredients to the peppers and pineapple:
    1/2 C. vinegar
    3/4 C. pineapple juice
    1/2 C. sugar
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. ginger

    Recipe

    For meatballs:
Form meat into 1" balls and sauté until brown in 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil.

Simmer, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens. Pour over meatballs
