    Poppy Seed Cake


    List of Ingredients


    • 2 cups flour
    • 3 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick0 unsalted butter, softened
    • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 tablespoon vanilla sugar
    • 1 egg lightly beaten
    • 2 3/4 cups finely ground poppy seeds
    • 1 cup milk


    Instructions


    1. Preheat oven to 325F. Generously butter adn flour two 9-inch springform or layer cake pans, tapping out excess flour; set aside.
    2. Sift flour and baking powder together onto wax paper; set aside.

    3. Cram butter, granulated sugar, adn vanilla sugar into larg mixing bowl beat at high speed until smoothl beat in egg. Stir in poppy seads and 1/3 cup milk.
    4. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately to poppy seed mixture with remaining milk, beginning and ending with dry. Batter will be thick.
    5. Divide batter between pand and bake until springy to touch--about 40 minutes.
    6. Cool ckes in pans on wire racks 10 minutes. Loosen, release and remove springform pnad side, then carefully separate cakes from pan bottoms. Cool on wire racks.
