    Apple Bars I


    List of Ingredients


    • 3/4 cup flour
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
    • 2 lart eggs
    • 1 cup diced, peeled apples
    • TOPPING:
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons graulated sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon


    Instructions


    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
    2. Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, ginger and nutmeg
    3. In a large bowl, cream the vvegetable shortening and sugar. Beat in the eggs. Gradually blend in the
      dry ingredients. Fold in the apples.

    4. Spread teh dough evenly inn an ungreased 9-inch square baking pan
    5. Combine the cinnamon and sugar for the topping. Sprinkele even;y over the dough.
    6. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until firm to the touch. Let cool in the pan on a rack before cuttin in to bars.


    Final Comments


    Add 1/2 cup raisins and or 1/2 cup shopped nuts to dough if desired.
    Drizzle white icing over the top as soon as the bars are baked.
