Apple Bars I
List of Ingredients
- 3/4 cup flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 lart eggs
- 1 cup diced, peeled apples
- TOPPING:
- 1 1/2 teaspoons graulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, ginger and nutmeg
- In a large bowl, cream the vvegetable shortening and sugar. Beat in the eggs. Gradually blend in the
dry ingredients. Fold in the apples.
- Spread teh dough evenly inn an ungreased 9-inch square baking pan
- Combine the cinnamon and sugar for the topping. Sprinkele even;y over the dough.
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until firm to the touch. Let cool in the pan on a rack before cuttin in to bars.
Final Comments
Add 1/2 cup raisins and or 1/2 cup shopped nuts to dough if desired.
Drizzle white icing over the top as soon as the bars are baked.
