Chocolate Sugar Cookies
List of Ingredients
- 3 3/4 flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup vegetable shortening
- 1 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 larg eggs
- 1/4 cup chocolate syrup
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- Granulates sugar for sprinkling
Instructions
- Combine the flour, baking powder and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream the vegetable shortening and sugar. Beat in the eggs. Beat in the chocolate syrup and vanilla. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Cover and chill for 2 hours.
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Lightly grease 2 baking sheets.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of 1/8 inch. Using a 2-inch round cookie cutter, cut the dough rounds and place 1 1/2 inches apart on teh prepared baking sheeets. Lightly brush the cookies with water and sprinkle with granulated sugar.
- Bake for 8 to 9 minutes, until firm to the touch. Transfer to wire racks to cool.
Final Comments
This dough cna also be used for refrigerator cookies. Form the dough into a log 2 inches in diameter, wrap in waxed paper, and chill overnight. Slice into 1/4-inch slices and bake as directed.
