    Chocolate Sugar Cookies


    List of Ingredients


    • 3 3/4 flour
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1 cup vegetable shortening
    • 1 1/2 cup granulated sugar
    • 2 larg eggs
    • 1/4 cup chocolate syrup
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla
    • Granulates sugar for sprinkling


    Instructions


    1. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt.
    2. In a large bowl, cream the vegetable shortening and sugar. Beat in the eggs. Beat in the chocolate syrup and vanilla. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Cover and chill for 2 hours.
    3. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Lightly grease 2 baking sheets.
    4. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of 1/8 inch. Using a 2-inch round cookie cutter, cut the dough rounds and place 1 1/2 inches apart on teh prepared baking sheeets. Lightly brush the cookies with water and sprinkle with granulated sugar.
    5. Bake for 8 to 9 minutes, until firm to the touch. Transfer to wire racks to cool.


    Final Comments


    This dough cna also be used for refrigerator cookies. Form the dough into a log 2 inches in diameter, wrap in waxed paper, and chill overnight. Slice into 1/4-inch slices and bake as directed.
