Warm Fruit Compote with Almonds

Yield: 6 servings.
1 (16-ounce) can pitted Royal Anne or dark sweet cherries in heavy syrup
2 medium peaches -- sliced
1 medium pear -- sliced
1 tablespoon fresh mint leaves -- chopped
1/4 cup sliced almonds
Vanilla ice cream or yogurt -- if desired
Heat coals or gas grill for direct heat.
Drain cherries, reserving 1/3 cup syrup. Mix cherries, reserved syrup, peaches, pear and mint in 9-inch round aluminum foil pan. Cover pan with aluminum foil, sealing edge securely. Place almonds in 9-inch round
aluminum foil pan (do not cover pan).
Cover and grill fruit mixture and almonds 4 inches from MEDIUM heat 8 to 10 minutes, stirring almonds twice, until peaches and pear are tender and almonds are golden brown.
Sprinkle almonds over fruit. Serve with vanilla ice cream.
