Braided Sesame Bread

Recipe Introduction
Makes 1 loaf
List of Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cup milk
- 3 T. honey
- 2 T. shortening
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 egg (slightly beaten)
- 1 pkg yeast
- 1/4 cup water
- 4 cups flour
- 1 T sesame seed
Instructions
- Scald milk, honey, shortening & salt together in saucepan. Let set till lukewarm.
- Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup water.
- Add to milk mixture
- Add flour 2 cups at a time.
- Knead 15 minutes.
- Place in greased bowl, let rise.
- Knead a few times, then cut dough into equal halves.
- Divide first half into 3 parts.
- Roll out to make 3 ropes 14 inches each
- Braid the 3 ropes together
- Take 1/3 of other half and make 3 ropes 10 inches each then braid.
- Take remaining dough and make 3 ropes 12 inches each then braid.
- Place on top of each other, larger on bottom then up.
- Let rise.
- Brush with beaten egg.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds over top of loaf.
- Bake at 375 approx 40 minutes or until done.
