    San Francisco Pita Pockets

    List of Ingredients


    • 1 pkg. (10 oz.) frozen chopped spinach
    • 3/4 lb. lean ground beef
    • 1/2 lb. fresh mushrooms, sliced
    • 1/2 cup chopped onion
    • 3 T butter or margarine
    • 3/4 tsp. dill weed
    • 1/2 tsp. salt
    • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
    • 1/2 tsp. pepper
    • 2 cups (8 oz.) grated cheeses (1/2 Cheddar & 1/2
    • Monterey Jack) - low fat/no fat
    • 4 pita breads, cut in half


    Instructions


    1. Defrost spinach in microwave on HIGH for 5 minutes,

    2. squeeze out excess liquid.

    3. Microwave meat of HIGH for 6-7 minutes. Drain fat.

    4. In a larger dish, microwave mushrooms, onion & butter

    5. on HIGH for 8-10 minutes. Stir in seasonings.

    6. Microwave on HIGH for 3 more minutes. Remove from

    7. microwave.

    8. Stir spinach & meat into mushroom-onion mixture. Fold

    9. in cheese. Cover with waxed paper or paper plate and

    10. microwave on HIGH for 3 minutes.

    11. Open pita breads and fill with meat mixture. Serve

    12. immediately. Makes 8 servings (if you eat 1/2 a pita).



    Final Comments


    We are vegetarians so instead of ground beef/turkey we substitute Morningstar Crumbles (or for a slightly different flavor, the sausage patties crumbled up) which can be found at most grocery stores.
