    Steak with Shiitake Mushroom Sauce

    List of Ingredients


    • 1/2 cup chopped onion
    • 1 garlic clove, minced
    • 2 cups thinly sliced shiitake mushroom caps
    • 1 cup low sodium beef broth
    • 1/3 cup dry white wine
    • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
    • 1/2 cup minced green onions
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
    • 1 to 1 1/2 pounds steak
    • non-stick cooking spray


    Instructions


    1. Sauce:
    2. Heat a skillet over medium high heat. Add the onion and garlic and saute 2 minutes. Add the mushrooms and saute for 4 minutes.
    3. Add the broth, wine and balsamic vinegar and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium and simmer until reduced to about 1 1/4 cups (about 6 minutes).
    4. Add the green onions and cook for an additional minute.
    5. Steak:
    6. Preheat the broiler or grill.
    7. Sprinkle the steak with the salt and pepper and cook until desired doneness. Allow the steak to rest and then cut into diagonal slices.
    8. Cover with the sauce and serve with green beans and rice.
