    2 cups each dried apples, cold water, granulated sugar
    1/8 tsp.salt
    1 orange, juice and grated zest
    1 tbsp.cinnamon
    1 recipe (double crust) pie pastry


    Recipe




    Heat oven to 450º F. (230º C). Cook dried apples in a saucepan with water and salt. When apples are soft and pulpy, add sugar, orange and cinnamon. Simmer until water is cooked away. Roll pastry out and cut in 8" circles. Place generous portions of mixture on half of pastry rounds; fold pastry over and pinch edges tightly. Bake at 450º F. for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350º F. and bake 35 - 40 minutes longer or until golden brown. Makes 6 half moon pies.
