Cheddar-And-Garlic Biscuits

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/3 cup shortening
1 cup each buttermilk, grated sharp cheddar
Garlic Butter:
1/2 stick unsalted butter or margarine, melted
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. dried parsley flakes
Recipe
Heat oven to 450ºF (235ºC). Grease a cookie sheet and set aside. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and soda. Using a pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add cheddar and buttermilk,stirring just until moistened. Drop batter by tbsp. onto cookie sheet. Bake 10 - 12 minutes, until lightly browned. Take garlic butter and brush it onto each hot biscuit. Garlic Butter: When biscuits are baking, make garlic butter. In a small bowl, combine butter, garlic powder and parsley flakes. Mix well. As soon as you bring biscuits from oven, brush them with garlic butter using a pastry brush. Serve warm. Makes 10-12 biscuits.
