Recipe Introduction
Mother told me that, the more you make them, the better you get at it..
They are Light and tasty Bisuits.
List of Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 2 cups self rising Flour
- 3/4 cup milk
- I will also add one heaping teaspoon of baking powder too.
Instructions
- Heat oven to 475 degrees.
- Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup.
- In a large bowl put the flour and shortening,
cut the shrtening into flour until it is consistency of coarse meal.
- add milk. Stir with spoon until the mixture leaves the sides of the bowl. and forms a soft , moist dough.
- Turn the dough on lightly floured surface. Make sure the hands are floured also. knead gently 10 times. You fold it in half each time.
- Pat out the dough until it is about the thickness of your finger.
- With floured biscuit cutter, cut them out. I lay them close to each one. I get around 10. Really depends on the size of the cutters.
- Bake for 10 to 15 minutes. or until golden brown.
- TIPS...
1. Buttermilk Biscuits
Use buttermilk for milk and add 1/4 teaspoon soda
- 2. Cheese Biscuits
Add 1/2 pound ( 2 cups) shredded cheddar cheese to flour-shortening.
- 3. Drop Buiscuts
increas milk to one (1) cup. Drop by tablespoonfuls onto grease cookie sheet.
Final Comments
If you do not have self rising flour,
use 2 cups all purpose flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt. Everything else is the same.
