Christmas Butternut Kiss Cookies

2 cups butter or margarine, softened
1 cup sugar
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. mint extract*
4 egg yolks
4 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2 - 3 pkg. candy kisses
Recipe
Heat oven to 350ºF (175ºC). Cream butter and sugar. Add extracts and yolks. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt. Add drops of food coloring until nice green color. Mix well. Roll into 1" balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten to 1/2" thickness. Bake 10 - 12 minutes. Remove from oven, put an inverted candy kiss in center. Move to rack to cool. By putting kiss upside down, they are easier to stack.
Note: *the mint is also green food coloring; Make red cookies using 1/2 - 1 tsp. cherry flavor and red food coloring instead of mint and green food coloring. These are pretty on a cookie tray - and delicious
