Recipe Introduction
Mouth-watering butter cookies bring a smile any time of year. This recipe can be adapted for an afternoon tea, a fireworks picnic or a Christmas Eve gathering, with a little bit of imagination, a collection of cute cookie cutters & an assortment of sprinkles.
List of Ingredients
2 cups softened unsalted (sweet) butter
2 cups white sugar
2 large eggs, beaten slightly
3 tsp. vanilla or 3 tsp. of lemon flavoring (may consider peppermint also)
6 tablespoons milk
6 cups flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
Recipe
Cream butter and sugar with electric beater. Add eggs a little at a time. Add flavoring and milk, and beat well.
In separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add slowly to creamed mixture. Beat all ingredients until they form a ball of dough. Divide in half and place each half on clear wrap, wrap tightly and chill at least 2 hours. Roll out one half at a time on floured board until ¼-inch thick. Cut out using a variety of cookie cutters for the particular occasion. Place one inch apart on lightly greased cookie sheet. Sprinkle with candy decorations or white sugar.
Bake at 300° F for 5 minutes; rotate and bake 5 minutes more. Let cool and frost as desired or eat as is.
