Recipe Introduction
She makes this for her Saint Joseph alter. Indeed her cookies are a labor of love.
List of Ingredients
5 lbs. all-purpose flour
5 cups sugar
3 lbs. vegetable shortenting
5 teaspoon ammonia power
2 1/2 to 3 cups of milk
2 oz. anise extract or 5 drops of anise oil
Recipe
1. combine flour & sugar
2. cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal.
3. dissolve ammonia powder in 1/2 cup of milk and add to flour.
4. add anise extract (or anise oil) to the flour mixture.
5. gradually add more milk, mixing until dough holds together.
6. pull off small pieces of dough and roll until about finger sized.
7. flatten to about 1/4 inch thick.
8. cut into 2 inch strips.
9. moisten lightly with water, then pat into sesame seeds.
10. place on ungreaed baking sheet.
11. bake in 350 degree oven for 2 mintes then turn pans around. After this, turn pans every minute (approx. 2 or 3 times) until BOTTOMS OF COOKIS ARE GOLDEN BROWN.
TOPS WILL NOT BROWN.
cookies will feel soft on top..
THEY WILL FIRM UP WHEN COOLED.
