Spicy Banana Cake

Mrs. Bowlus gave this one to my Mother. Is a very favorite with family.


Recipe Introduction


Mother got this when I was 8 years old..I was born in 1931. So it is one of the oldest recipes in family.


List of Ingredients




1/2 cup crico
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
2 1/2 cup flour
2 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
2 1/2 teaspoon bakind soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 cup milk
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 1/2 cup mashed ripe bananas (3 to 4)

Recipe



Blend Crisco, sugar, salt and eggs.
Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk, lemon juice, and banana.
To mash bananas, beat with egg beater till creamy.
put in round or square pans 8 inch.
bake in moderated oven 40 minutes at 350 degrees.

Double Boiler Icing:
cook over boiling water...
1 1/2 cups sugar, 1/4 cup water,
2 egg whites and 1 teaspoon lemon juice.
Beat constantly until frosting holds its shape.
Remove from heat.
Beat until stiff.
Use between layers and over top.
