Because the method can be completed without spills or appliances, the children can be introduced to the magic of bread-making at an early age.
It’s a process of mixing dough in a 1-gallon, heavy-duty freezer bag with a zipper lock, rather than using a mixing bowl. The dry ingredients are poured into the freezer bag, then shaken. Heated liquids are added and the bag is resealed.
Then the fun begins. The children can squish or squeeze, mash or massage the bag. The key is doing whatever it takes to make a dough from the ingredients.
The bag-mixing phase is complete when a stiff batter forms, or when the child gets bored! Once the dry and liquid ingredients come together, simply cut the edges of the bag, remove the dough and finish kneading on a lightly floured surface.
List of Ingredients
2 1/2 -3 cups all purpose flour
1 envelope RapidRise yeast
3 tbsp sugar
3 tbsp dry milk
1 tsp salt
1 cup water
3 tsp vegetable oil

Combine 1 cup flour, undissolved yeast, sugar, dry milk, and salt in a 1 gallon heavy duty freezer bag with ziplock. Squeeze upper part of bag to force out air. Close bag. Shake and work bag with fingers to blend ingredients. Heat water and vegetable oil till warm (120-130 degrees), add to flour mixture. Reseal bag; mix thoroughly with fingers, gradually add enough remaining flour to make a small ball that pulls away from the bag. Remove dough from bag, and knead on lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes. Cover, let rest 10 minutes.
Roll dough to a rectangle, then roll into tightly as you would a jelly roll. Pinch seam and ends to seal. Place in a greased bread pan, cover let rise until doubled in size, about an hour. Bake at 375 for 30-35 minutes, or until done. remove from pan, let cool. Makes about 12 slices
