    1/2 cup butter
    1 cup brown sugar
    3TBS corn syrup
    1 cup pecans, chopped
    Mix all in saucepan and stir until smooth. Pour into 9 x 13 baking pan. I do this step in the microwave and use a pyrex pan.
    1 loaf of French bread, cut into 1 inch thick slices
    5 large eggs
    1 1/2 cups half & half
    1 tsp vanilla
    1/2 tsp maple flavoring
    pinch of salt

    In bowl, whisk eggs, half & half, flavorings and salt. Pour evenly over bread slices which have been arranged in baking pan. You can squeeze the slices in to fit better(especially after being soaked with the liquid. Cover pan and chill at least 6 hours (or overnight).
    Bake uncovered in a 350 oven for 35 to 40 minutes or until sightly puffy and golden brown.
    May be served by inverting pan onto a very large platter or a cookie sheet with sides. I don't have a large enough platter and a cookie sheet is very unattractive to put on the table. I serve it by slicing or scooping toast out onto plate, and inverting so caramel layer is on top. The caramel layer serves as syrup but the casserole may be served with additional syrup or whipped cream. Or both
