Turtle Sundae Dessert

- 1 pkg. German Chocolate cake mix
- 1 (14 oz.) pkg. caramels
- 1/2 c. evaporated milk
- 6 T. butter or margarine
- 1 c. pecans, chopped
- 1 c. pecans, chopped
- 1 c. semisweet chocolate chips
- vanilla ice cream (optional)
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350 degrees.
- Mix cake according to package directions. Set aside half of the batter; pour remaining batter into a greased and floured 9/13 cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 18 minutes.
- Meanwhile, in a saucepan over low heat, melt caramels, milk and butter. Remove from heat and add nuts.
- Pour over cake. Sprinkle with chocolate chips. Pour reserve batter over the top.
- Bake 20-25 minutes more or until cake springs back when lightly touched. Cool.
- Cut into squares. If desired top each with a scoop of ice cream.
