    Note:
    Half-recipe amounts are in parentheses.

    1 3/4 cups unsifted all purpose flour (3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons)

    2 cups sugar (1 cup)

    3/4 cup Hershey’s cocoa (1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons)

    1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda (3/4 teaspoon)

    1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder (3/4 teaspoon)

    1 teaspoon salt (1/2 teaspoon)

    2 eggs (1 egg)

    1 cup milk (1/2 cup)

    1/2 cup vegetable oil (1/4 cup)

    2 teaspoons vanilla (1 teaspoon)

    1 cup boiling water (1/2 cup)

    Recipe



    Preheat oven to 350ºF. Grease and flour two 9-inch, three 8-inch, OR one 13 x 9–inch pan(s).
    Combine dry ingredients in a mixing bowl. Add remaining ingredients EXCEPT boiling water. Beat at medium speed 2 minutes. Stir in boiling water (batter will be thin). Pour into prepared pans.
    BAKE:
    8-inch OR 9-inch layers for 30 to 35 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean; 13 x 9-inch for 35 to 40 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
    Cool for 10 minutes. Remove from pans, Cool completely. Frost with Hershey's Chocolate Frosting (recipe below).

    Hershey's Chocolate Frosting

    6 Tablespoons butter OR margarine (3 tablespoons)

    1/2 cup Hershey’s cocoa (1/4 cup)

    2 2/3 cups confectioners’ sugar (1 1/3 cups)

    4 to 5 Tablespoons milk (2 to 3 tablespoons)

    1 Tablespoon vanilla (1/2 tablespoon)

    Cream butter or margarine until softened in a small mixer bowl. Add cocoa; blend well. Gradually add confectioners’ sugar alternately with milk and vanilla; beat to spreading consistency. Spread frosting onto dessert with spatula.
