    SCARLETT'S FRIENDS

    Recipe Introduction

OH! YES the long car rides and trying to keep everyone entertained. Been there. Here's some great tips!

    List of Ingredients

As for snacks, I like to fill the cooler with gingerale, capri fruit juice packets, and bottle water.
To nibble, a sliced container with carrots, celery chunks to pick up and eat. A box of ritz peanutbutter crackers, dried fruit, wheat thins, gummy fruit candy, granola bars, nuts, trixs, cereal, and warhead candies. I even like packing snacks like this when we fly in our carry on packs. Just not the drinks.

As for games 20 questions, I spy, ABC game--where you are going on a trip and everyone has to take a letter of the alphabet as you go around naming something that you would take on the trip for that letter. You also need to remember what everyone else mentioned for the previous letters.
How many red cars do you see or other color of cars. State to state cars---see how many states you pass on the way that you can find. Guess it may be what you call your license plate game.
A scavenger hunt. Give each child a paper with different things printed on it that they may see on there travel trip and see who gets them all filled first.
If the child is old enough you can even give them a throw away camera to take pictures of some of the things when they see things on there trip on the scavenger hunt list. When you stop to stretch or use the bathroom.
Crossword books, puzzle books, all in one fun book (you can find them in the dollar stores)they have all kinds of activities to do in them) crayons and color books, hand held computer games with endless batteries, cd player with cd's and endless batteries.

We are familiar with the 1000 mile Kansas to Georgia drive!! My suggestion is to split the drive into a 60/40 or 65/35 split (the bigger drive on the first day). We will be trying that this summer. It always seemed that the kids were doing OK when we got to the hotel on the first day, but lost it several hours before we reached our destination on day 2. Also, be sure to find a hotel with a pool and free breakfast! Leave **very** early in the morning so they sleep for the first part of the trip.

As for snacks, cheese sticks or cubes, breakfast bars, apples, grapes, even yogurt (or go-gurt, although we haven't tried these) is good, as well as enjoynature's suggestions. If your kids like sandwiches, make a few and keep in the cooler. Our kids are 4 and 2, so we haven't gotten into the games yet. Our portable DVD player has been one of the best investments we have ever made!!!!! That, along with a couple of new movies can really help break up the trip. A few new books (Walmart has the 2 for $5 books), crayons and paper, coloring books, a LeapPad (if you have one), new toys (we'll often save happy meal toys for this) also help. Anything new (to them!) can keep their attention for a while. Hit garage sales in your area. At lunch, stop somewhere at a play place. Order for the adults and let the kids play, then order for the kids to eat in the car.

Oh, and take lots of baby wipes, paper towels, and empty plastic sacks for trash!
