    Recipe Introduction

This will take some explaining here, but no matter what you've heard about your Great grandpa Keckmety being very reserved, he did have a sense of humor especially if he found a lacking in one of us kid's or in Grandma. The story goes and it's true cause I was there. Grandma was in the kitchen one winternight, well everyone was in the kitchen because that was the only room in the house that was heated in the winter, unless it went below zero, anyway, grandpa was shelling corn and chewing on sunflower seeds listening to the radio. i was doing my homework or something more important like drawing and grandma was baking, actually today you'd call it experimenting in 1940 (actually grandpa called it experimenting). anyway, mom was making a batch of Molasses Cookies that really made your mouth water by the smell that was coming from the oven. Mom proudly said that Betty had sent her the recipe from Columbus, and it was a very old Swedish recipe. mom took the cookie sheet out of the oven and put them on the counter to cool while she heated the water to make lemon tea. dad took a cookie and took a bite (at least he TRIED to take a bite), he couldn't even make a dent in the cookie! He bit into it again, and in frustration he threw it across the room and said " This is as hard as a bullet! Stop the experimentation!" Of course mom made these cookies at leaset once a winter just to irritate dad and one time a winter dad would throw one across the room!
