    Recipe Introduction


    A favorite of St George, Minnesota. Grandma would make this when they owned the tavern and store, dad said it was a Sunday favorite with beer and mashed potatoes.


    List of Ingredients


    • 2 cups soft unseeded rye bread
    • 1 (16oz) can sauerkraut (drained)
    • 2 eggs (lightly beaten)
    • 1/2 cup milk
    • 1/2 cup chopped onion
    • 1 tsp caraway seed
    • 1/2 tsp ground pepper
    • 2 Tbsp catsup
    • 2 lbs lean ground beef


    Instructions


    1. Preheat the oven to 350
    2. In a large bowl combine ALL ingredients (except the meat) - Mix Well.
    3. Add the ground beef and mix thouroughly.
    4. Pat into a thick flat loaf approximately 10 inches long by 8 inches wide and place on a rack in greased or foiled lined 9 x 13 inch pan.
    5. Bake for 1 1/4 hours or until nicely browned.
    6. Let stand for 10 minutes prior to slicing.
