The best steak sandwich!
List of Ingredients
- 3/4 stick (6 Tbsp) butter - Unsalted and softened.
- 3 Tbsp drained bottled horseradish
- 3 Tbsp Dijon Mustard
- 1 /12 Tbsp minced shallot
- 1 (1 lb) piece of flank steak (3/4 to 1 inch thick)
- 1 (20-22inch) baguette
- 1 large bunch of watercress - discard the tough stems
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the broiler
- Blend together the butter, horseradish, mustard, shallot and salt and pepper with a fork in a bowl until well combined.
- Pat steak dry, season both sides well with salt and pepper and put on a rack of the broiler pan.
- Spread top of steak with 1 Tbsp of mustard butter and broil 2 to 3 inches from heat for 5 minutes.
- Turn over and spread other side with 1 Tbsp of mustard butter and broil 4 to 5 minutes more.
- Transfer the meat to a cutting board and let stand for 5 minutes.
- Don't turn off the broiler!
- Cut baguette crosswise into 4 equal sections then half sections horizontally.
- Broil bread - cut sides up. Rotate pan once.
- Broil bread unti golden - 30 seconds to 1 minute - Do not burn.
- Cut the meat VERY THIN - hold the knife at a 45 degree angle and slice steak across the grain.
- Spread cut sides of bread with mustard butter and mound steak on half of bread.
- Top with watercress.
- Close the sandwich with the remaining top of the bread.
