Grandma Minnie's Cauliflower au Gratin

List of Ingredients
- 1 large head of fresh cauliflower
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 3 Tbsp butter - melted
- 3 Tbsp flour
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 3/4 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs (Jim suggests Panko)
- 2 Tbsp butter to dot on top
Instructions
- Start by grating the Cheddar cheese and allow to sit aside.
- Pull all the leaves off the cauliflower and cut off the stem near the head.
- Wash and drain
- Place cauliflower in a pan and enough water to cover the head of cauliflower.
- Add 1/2 tsp salt to the water
- Cover and simmer 15 - 20 minutes.
- Remove from heat, drain and place in a buttered 2 qt casserole dish.
- Melt 3 Tbsp butter in a saucepan.
- Add flour to the melted butter and keep heat at medium low.
- Gradually stir in the milk - slowly and keep stirring at all times.
- Add 1/4 tsp salt and cook for 1 minute longer - KEEP STIRRING.
- Add the grated cheese and cook until it's all melted and smooth.
- Pour over the head of culiflower and sprinkle the head with bread crumbs or Panko.
- Dot with butter.
- bake uncovered at 325 for 25 - 30 minutes - until hot and bubbly.
