Amish Onion Cake

3-4 medium onions, chopped
2 cups cold butter or margarine, divided
1 T poppy seeds
1 1/2 t salt
1 1/2 t paprika
1 t coursely ground pepper
4 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup corn starch
1 T baking soda
1 T sugar
1 T brown sugar
5 eggs
3/4 cup milk
3/4 cup sour cream
In a large skillet, cook onions in 1/2 c butter over low heat for 10 minutes. Stir in poppy seeds, salt, paprika and pepper. Cook until golden brown, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and set aside.
In a bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, baking powder and sugars. Cut in 1 1/4 c butter till mixture resembles course crumbs.
Melt remaining butter. In a bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, sour cream and melted butter. Make a well in dry ingredients. Stir in egg mixture just till moistened. Spread into a greased, 10" springform pan. Spoon onion
mixture over the dough. Place pan on baking sheet. Bake at 350º for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Serve
warm.
