Pear Walnut Crumb Cake

Topping:
1 1/2 cups finely chopped walnuts
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1 tbsp ground cinnamon
1/3 cup butter
Cake:
2 large ripe pears
1 3/4 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 eggs
1 cup sour cream
Recipe
Heat oven to 350 F. Grease a 13 x 9 inch baking dish. In a bowl, combine the first four ingredients. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Set aside. Peel, core, and coarsely chop pears. Set aside. Combine flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl. In a large mixing bowl, beat butter, sugar, and vanilla on high speed until light and fluffy. Add the eggs amd sour cream to the batter. Beat on low speed until combined. Add the flour mixture and beat on low speed until combined. Stir in the pears. Spoon into prepared baking dish. Sprinkle with the topping mixture. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the cake pulls away from the sides of the pan and the topping is browned. Yield: 2 dozen (2 inch) squares.
