    Turtle Cake

    Source of Recipe

    "Nana" to Bubbe & Alex

1 pkg German chocolate cake mix (any brand will do, Duncan Hines
    makes a good one)
    1 C semi-sweet chocolate chips
1C pecans, roughly chopped into large pieces
    1/2 C butter
    1/3 C evaporated milk
    48 Kraft caramels

Prepare cake mix as directed on package. Pour half of the batter into a
    greased and floured 9 x 13 " pan. Bake at 350F degrees for 15-20
minutes or until done. Meanwhile melt the caramels together with the
milk and butter. Stir occasionally to avoid burning. When cake is done
pour caramel mix over cake to cover (no need to let it cool first).
Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts over caramel layer. (Try to resist
the urge to add extra chocolate chips and nuts as the pan will be really
full when you add the rest of the cake). Pour remaining half of cake
batter over the top of the chocolate and nut layer. Bake again for 20
    -
    30 min at 350F degrees.

Ice with your favourite chocolate icing (try equal parts whipped
cream and chocolate pudding) and garnish with chopped up Turtles
    chocolates if desired.
