M & M's Cookie Mix

2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups M & M's
Combine the flour, baking soda and salt. Layer the ingredientsin a one quart canning jar starting with the flour mixture, then brown sugar, then granulated sugar, then the M & M's, pressing each layer firmly in place before adding the next layer. You can use either regular M & M's or the mini-baking size. For Christmas you might want to use the red and green M & M's.
Place a circle of fabric over the lid. Secure with a piece of thin ribbon or raffia.
Attach a card to the jar with the following directions -

Preheat oven to 375�. In a large mixing bowl combine 1/2 softened butter + 1 lightly beaten egg + 1 teaspoon vanilla. Mix until well blended. Add the cookie mix and stir to mix all the ingredients together. Spray two cookie sheets lightly with non-stick cooking spray. Drop the cookie batter by rounded spoonfuls, 2" apart, onto the sprayed cookie sheets. Bake at 375� for about 12minutes or until the edges are very lightly browned. Allow cookies to cool on the cookie sheets for about 2 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
