    Aunt Saunny

    4 eggs
    1/2 cup shortening
    1 lemon (juice and rind)
    1 orange (juice and rind)
    5 cups flour
    1 teaspoon soda
    3 teaspoons baking powder
    1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/2 teaspoon ginger
    1/2 teaspoon cloves
    1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

    BRING TO A BOIL AND COOL:
    1 cup strong, black coffee
    1 cup honey
    1 cup brown sugar
    1 cup granulated sugar
    1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

    Beat eggs well, add melted and cooled shortening or oil, add fruit
    rind and juices. Add presifted dry ingredients alternately with
    coffee-honey mixture. Bake in a 9X12 inch loaf pan in a moderate oven
    (350 degrees) about 1 1/4 hours.
