Pork Chops with Apple Slices

4 pork loin chops ( about 1" thick), well trimmed
2 medium apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1 tsp. butter
1/4 tsp. nutmeg (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
Quickly brown pork chops in a skillet; drain well. Arrange a layer of sliced apples in the crock-pot, then a layer of pork chops; then repeat. Dot with butter; sprinkle with nutmeg (if used). Add salt and pepper. Cover and cook on low setting for 6 to 8 hours.
