Spare ribs in brown sugar sauce

about 2 lbs. spare ribs
salt and pepper to taste
Sauce:
1 medium onion, finely grated
2 handfuls of brown sugar (about 1/2 cup)
3/4 bottle ketchup (about 1 1/4 cups)
2 tbsp. mayonnaise
prepared mustard to taste (a heaping tsp.)
Wash the spare ribs and salt and pepper them to taste. Wrap in
aluminum foil and bake in a 425 degree oven for about 45 minutes.
Stir together the onion, brown sugar, ketchup, mayonnaise and
mustard. Baste the ribs with the sauce, return to oven with aluminum
foil open, and bake a few minutes on each side, until sauce browns
lightly.
