Red Hot Apple Pie

- 1/2 - 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1 tablespoon minute tapioca
- 3 tablespoons red hots (cinnamon imperials)
- 5-7 cooking apples, pared, cored & sliced
- 1 unbaked pie shell

- CRUMB TOPPING:
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 3/4 cup flour
- 1/3 cup butter
- dash of salt
Instructions
- Combine sugar, flour, tapioca and red hots, mix well.
- Toss apple slices with sugar mixture and arrange in the pie shell.
- Combine crumb topping ingredients, cutting in butter until mixture is like fine meal. Sprinkle over apples.
- Bake at 400F for 40-45 minutes or until apples are tender.
- Protect crust from over-browning by shielding it with aluminum foil or a regular crust shield.
