    Recipe Introduction


    "I substituted walnuts for raisins in an old recipe, and came up with my husband's favorite cookies!" ~ K. Blackburn


    List of Ingredients


    • 1/2 cup shortening
    • 1/4 cup white sugar
    • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
    • 1 egg
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1 cup rolled oats
    • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts


    Instructions


    1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
    2. In a large bowl, mix together the shortening, white sugar and brown sugar until smooth. Stir in the egg and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; stir into the batter until blended. Mix in oats and walnuts.
    3. Drop by teaspoonfuls, 1 inch apart, onto greased cookie sheet.
    4. Bake for 12 minutes or until lightly browned. Immediately remove cookies to wire racks and allow to cool.
