Fried Green Tomatoes

List of Ingredients
- 1 large egg, beaten with a little water
- dash of salt
- splash or two of tabasco
- 3 or 4 green tomatoes, sliced no more than 1/4 inch thick
- couple handfuls of soft bread crumbs
- one handful yellow cornmeal
- oil, butter, bacon drippings or combination for frying
Instructions
- Add salt & tabasco to beaten egg.
- Combine crumbs and cornmeal in a shallow dish.
- Pat tomato slices dry with paper towels and then dip into egg, dredge in crumbs/cornmeal.
- Heat oil or drippings in skillet.
- Saute tomatoes until breading is crispy and deep golden brown, turning once.
- Drain on paper towels.
- To make gravy from drippings, blend in 2 tbsp. flour until smooth and cook 2 - 3 minutes. Add 2 cups milk, continue cooking until it thickens, stirring constantly. Season with salt & pepper to taste. Ladle over tomatoes if desired.
