Caramel French Toast

List of Ingredients
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 tbs. light corn syrup (or maple syrup)
- 12 slices white or whole wheat bread
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1 tsp. cinnamon, divided
- 6 eggs beaten
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
Instructions
- Lightly grease 13x9x2" baking dish (or aluminum pan of the same size). Set aside.
- Bring brown sugar, butter and syrup to a boil. Remove from heat and pour into baking dish.
- Top with 6 slices of bread and sprinkle with combined sugar and 1/2 tsp. cinnamon. Top with remaining bread.
- Beat eggs, milk, vanilla and remaining cinnamon and pour over bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
- Remove dish from refrigerator, uncover and bake in preheated oven at 350 for 30 to 35 minutes (or until golden).
- Sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired, when serving.
- Makes 4 to 6 servings.
Final Comments
This recipe is very sweet, so I usually cut it in small squares, and people can have seconds if they want.
