    This recipe is a classic from the days when Carol taught home economics at Selzer School, in Dumont, NJ.

    List of Ingredients




    1 cup flour
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. salt

    1/2 cup (1 stick) margarine
    3/4 cup sugar

    1 egg
    1 tbsp. molasses
    1 tsp. vanilla

    3/4 cup oatmeal

    Recipe



    Sift dry ingredients together.
    Cream margarine and sugar together. Add egg and mix well.
    Add molasses and vanilla.
    Add dry ingredients. Mix well.
    Add oats.

    Dough will be stiff.

    Preheat oven to 350.
    Lightly grease cookie sheet. Shape dough into 1 inch sized balls and place 2 inches apart on cookie sheet.

    Bake for 13 minutes or until very lightly browned. Remove to cooling rack carefully since cookies will be very soft.

    Makes about 3 dozen depending on size of balls rolled.
