    Source of Recipe

    Grandma Bombino

    Recipe Introduction

This was a favorite bread of ours growing up. It is crunchy the harder the better.

    List of Ingredients

    6 cups milk
    1 1/2 cups shortening
    1 cup sugar
    2 Tblsp salt

1/4 lb yeast (four dry yeast)
    2 Tblsp sugar

    12 eggs beaten
6 lbs flour about 19 cups
2 Tblsp aniseed add more to taste you can add up to 4 tablespoons the original aniseed came from Italy and was stronger then what we have here.

    Recipe

Boil milk, sugar, shortening, salt. Let it cool.
Add yeast to cooled boiled mixture until it is activated.
Add eggs, flour and aniseed in that order. You can add more than 2 Tblsp. aniseed if you want. The original aniseed came from Italy and was stronger.
    Let dough rise till double.
Then make rolls. The size of plums flatten down a little and put a hole in the middle so it looks like a donut.
    Let it rise again.
Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
    Cool
Cut in half and put in broiler to toast.
