    Recipe Introduction

The flank steak has a rich beefy flavor that makes it a perfect choice for a steak sandwich loaded with toppings. This recipe & toppings are perfect for a "Fall Kick-Off" Football Party - accompanied by Game Ball Brownies.

    List of Ingredients

Grilled Flank Steak with Choice of 3 Toppings

    2 pounds flank steak
    1 tsp salt
    1 tsp freshly ground pepper

    Blue Cheese Mushrooms Topping:
If you have not tasted the combination of mushrooms and blue cheese you are in for a treat. This combo has swayed even people who swear they don¹t like blue cheese.
    2 Tblsp butter
    1 pounds fresh mushrooms, sliced
    1/2 tsp salt
    1/4 tsp pepper
    4 oz. blue cheese, crumbled

    Puttanesca Style Tomato Topping:
This is an earthy tomato sauce. The anchovies add a distinct but subtle flavor in the sauce.
2 (14.5 oz.) cans diced tomatoes with garlic & onions
1/2 cup chopped, pitted Kalamata olives
    1/4 cup capers
    2 anchovy fillets, minced

    Red Onion Pickles Topping:
The combination of onions and beef is a match made in heaven. These hot onion pickles add a new twist to an old favorite.
    1 large red onion
    3/4 cup rice vinegar
    1/3 cup sugar
    1 tsp pepper flakes

    Grilled Flank Steak:
Preheat the broiler. Season the flank steak with the salt and pepper and broil about 4 inches from the heat source for about 3-4 minutes per side or until nicely browned. Remove from broiler, loosely cover with foil and let rest for about 5 minutes. Slice the flank steak across the grain into thin slices.

    Red Onion Pickles Topping:
Peel and cut the onion into 1/2-inch slices and separate the rings. Add the vinegar, sugar and pepper flakes to a medium frying pan and cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves about 1 minute. Add the onion rings and toss in the hot mixture to coat.
